When watercolor and set design meet in a wonderful project!

When watercolor and set design meet in a wonderful project!

[by Marion Rivolier from Paris, France]

Some of you know that I am a painter, but I am also a scenographer for museum and for the theater.
Right now, I am working on a very interesting project: the play “Traversée” is the story of the migration of a young woman who leaves her country and her mother to reach a better life. It is a bilingual play: french and FSL (French Sign Language) with one deaf and one non-hearing-impaired stage actress.
We began the rehearsals in October in Bourgogne, in a small town in Eastern France.

The theater troupe works with three set elements I designed. The three elements are made of wood. The actresses move them to change the stage, and to create the different locations of the story.
Screens are stretched out on some these elements, and my watercolors are projected onto them.
So this project is the meeting of my two specialties: set design and watercolor!
The show will be premiered at the Théâtre Granit in Belfort in November, and in other locations in Eastern France next year.
