IBM i Masters

As a senior IBM i developer I bought this book as a quick reference book and for some areas of the IBM i that I have had not had much experience with like RSE and DB2 Web Query. About 75% of the book was in areas of the IBM i that I have already mastered but the book is very well written by expert IBM i Authors! I loved the layout and clarity and I can use this book as a quick reference book since all my ILE modern books were lost in Hawaii in 2009. This book is still relevant and I could not pass up the low price! It is great for junior and mid level IBM i developers and senior developers can use it for a quick reference book in areas of the IBM i they have not used in a while (like RSE). I highly recommend this book and these authors for IBM i developers especially at the cut rate price!

This is an excellent introduction to the ISeries (formerly AS400) for anyone new to the system. Covers it in just enough depth to learn what a person needs to know. Would recommend it to a friend.

Reillys Wildcard is the fourth offering in Anne Raineys Blackwater series. This was my first read from Ms. Rainey and I really enjoyed it.

The back story as I understood it seemed very promising, and was the reason I chose the book in the first place. Turns out that I chose well because the story was every bit as good as Id anticipated. Raineys Blackwater series features the five Jennings brothers and the emotional baggage that came with being orphaned and placed in the foster system.

Later on they were all taken in by a great couple and given a loving home. The guys are appreciative for everything their adoptive parents did for them, so when their mother needs them, they all come running. This is romance land, so theyre bound to find love along the way in this series. And as they do theyll each have some issues to face. This is Reillys story.

Reilly and Lucy hooked up for a one night stand that ended in disaster when he says something that hurts her feelings. She runs off and refuses to let him make it up to her. Foolish girl, thats what she was. Anyhow, two months later, she finds out shes knocked up with his kid.

Heres where the story got even more interesting to me. Its Reilly who wants something more in this story. Lucy has some deep issues of her own that keep her from committing to anything permanent. Of course, it didnt help that Reilly was a bit paranoid and kept on hurting her feelings. But then, she could have pulled on her big girl panties and quit being such a cry baby herself. Reilly definitely needed a filter for what was coming out of his mouth, but he really did love Lucy. He wanted to be there for her and the baby. He did the best he could and she kept trying to push him away. I felt that they both had some problems and that they dealt with them the best way they could.

I guess you could say that I liked both of them to a certain extent. But I definitely loved Reilly, and it wasnt just because the writer describes him as sex on a stick. He was all that but he was also a good guy who wanted to do what was right for his kid. That the sizzling attraction he felt for Lucy turned into something real along the way was just icing on the cake.

I didnt like Lucy nearly as much as I did Reilly. She was much too whiny for my liking. She kept running away every time he said something that hurt her little feelings. I kept wanted to grab her by her hair and give her a piece of my mind. What is wrong with a good argument every now and then? Solving your problems by talking -- or screaming -- things out usually works wonders in a relationship. Itll add passion to the story every time. I wouldve enjoyed seeing her go toe-to-toe with Reilly instead of running away.

This story got a little personal for me. Lucy wasnt sure if she could be a good mom. Dont most of us feel that way our first time around? Given her history, I understood those feelings. It took her a while to realize that shed just have to feel her way along, and that made the story even better for me. I was a young mother once and had some of those same fears myself. Lucy wasnt a young mother, but she had a whole different set of problems. But as I read this story I kept thinking that, like me, she needed to realize that she had it in her to be a really great mom. Lucy was afraid that she couldnt be enough for her child or for Reilly. She just had to believe in herself. Lucky for her, she had a great guy to help her do that.

This is an erotic story, and some of the love scenes are really spicy. The first one was the hottest, but there were plenty of hot scenes spaced throughout the story.

I really enjoyed this story. The plot flowed well and made it easy to engage in the story.The writer did a fantastic job with character development. She gave me a good understanding of why Reilly and Lucy acted the way they did. I understood their feelings. I was able to identify with Lucy, even when I didnt like her very much. It takes a talented writer to do that, especially in such a short story.

Id recommend this story to all contemporary readers.

I really like Reilly and Lucy and there was a lot more angst in this story than the previous ones. With that said, there seemed to be a lot of misunderstanding and uncertainty that I just didnt get... It seemed like the reached a level as a couple and then would take 2 giant steps back and not be sure how the other felt and why they were really together. I understand the need to give the story some conflict, but this made the closeness I felt feel imagined. Anyway, the storyline and characters were great and I was happy to see where they ended up!

This book is good Reilly has really met his match in Lucy. Lucy is headstrong and knows how to take care of herself and has been doing this since her she divorced her husband. After one night together Lucy finds out that she is pregnant and is not sure how Reilly will react to it. It is funny to see the push and pull of to strong willed people. This is a short story so everything is a bit rushed but I would definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Pinocchio In Outer Space

Jeff Lemire creates a flip side to his Sweet Tooth Universe in this brilliant start to his new series. Tim-21 is a robotic boy created to be a companion for a real boy. But something horrible had happened in this futuristic world. The planet sized "Harvesters " have come wreaking havoc and destruction. But once more a child or in this case a robotic child might be the key to figuring it all out.

Jeff Lemire, the Candian phenom once more proves why he is one of the top writers in comics. Here is yet another completely different , but completely realized Universe to explore. This is top notch space opera with elements of mystery, intrigue and politics combined in.

Artist Dustin Nguyen demonstrates a masterful skill set in this stunning art. Done in pencils and water color paint Nguyen does a great job of bringing this world to life. That Nguyen is able to fully paint an entire issue every month is an amazing fact.

This Trade Paperback collects the first six issues of this limited series which just started in March of 2015. The series is planned for at least 24 issues but that could easily be doubled revealed the creators in an interview I recently read.

The supporting casts includes two humans, Doctor Quon (father of robotics) and Captain Tesla (daughter of an important man). We also have two more robotic cast members, the powerful Driller the Killer and the little robotic dog Bandit.

This first volume has made me very eager for more and Hollywood has agreed as Descender has already been optioned for a movie by Sony.

Colourful sci-fi comic collection about the aftermath of an invasion by giant robots

After giant robots wipe out billions on a faraway planet, a backlash against all robots ensues. This collection deals with the discovery of the origin of the giant robots through Tim21, a boy robot companion and his inventor, Dr Quon, with dire consequences for all concerned as other parties get involved – for the moment.

Well-written and illustrated, it was engaging and interesting. Well worth a look. Volume 2 should be intriguing.

While Im generally not a huge comic book person, this series has been a wonderful exception for me.

Beautifully written and drawn -- the hand-drawn water coloring is some of the most gorgeous comic book art Ive ever seen. You could totally leave this on a coffee table and people could just flip the pages and fall in love, without even reading it panel by panel.

Sci Fi works really, really well in graphic form, and yet we have so few really good sci fi graphic novels and comics... Im so glad this series was started.

Ive been downloading the issues on Comixology, but the art is so georgeous in a way that comes out best in print -- so I wanted to get the first volume when it came out. I was worried I wouldnt want to go back and read it, and that this would be a glorified prop in my book case, but Im happy to report that getting to pick this story up in hand and see the water colors in person has made me fall in love with the issues in Volume 1 all over again.

While Ive been downloading the series from Comixology, I have seen enough of the issues in person to know that the first volumes collection is every bit as gorgeous and well done as the individual issues so far..

For a $10 price, the cover is fairly durable, so it should hold up well as long as you dont mistreat it.

The Original American Dream

Its a little presumptuous to write a "review" of a book as historically important as this, so Ill just give a few reasons why you should read it.

Its well-written and engaging, even 200+ (nearing 300+; Franklin was born in 1706) years later. It stops in 1760, well before his involvement with the Revolution, but it covers in detail his youth, apprenticeships, the formation of his philosophy and ideals, and his path from poor roots to business and social success -- the first telling of the American Dream, the idea that a poor young man could Find His Fortune in the New World through enterprise, wisdom, and work.

There is a high degree of self-hagiography here, and it would be amusing to tally up (for example) how many times Franklin praises himself vs. how many times he advises on the virtue of humility. He smooths over controversial topics like his illegitimate son, he doesnt mention his membership in the Freemasons, etc. The construction is also a bit rambling ("Then I did this thing. Next, I did another thing. Then I did a third thing"), but Franklin simply did so many interesting things -- even in this short slice of his life -- that the book is interesting despite that. Theres a great deal of discussion on his scientific and inventive accomplishments, and he talks at length about his development of his own personal moral code and how he achieved business success (along with Franklins Personal Method You Can Use for Self-Improvement -- in some ways, this is the first self-help book!)

All in all, this is very much worth reading, and gives a compelling picture of Franklins life and times. I particularly liked the picture Franklin draws of contemporary American society -- free, open, and small, with most people in most towns all knowing each other, and business opportunities are wide open for anyone with industry and pluck. Im not sure how similar modern-day America still is to Franklins Philadelphia, but its certain that Franklin -- and this book -- helped set the image that we still *want* to believe America conforms to. And for that alone, its worth reading.

If you like this book, you might also be interested in reading Alexis de Tocquevilles _Democracy in America_, for another view of colonial-era America, or any of Mark Twains nonfiction (_Life on the Mississippi_, _Roughing It_, etc.), for similar accounts of Americas growth and development a hundred-odd years further on. Any of those should be available as a free Kindle download.

Homespun, History and Dreary Themes

Dr. Franklin appears to have been motivated by a desire to let the rest of us know what was right in his life and what was wrong. The latter he refers to as errata and there are precious few. The man was a world renowned Scientist, a representative of our fledgling Nation abroad, lived through the Revolution and was revered in this Nation as it sought the footing, the foundation, on which it still rests. It is a more homely version, Polonius to Laertes, advice to young persons from a successful elder. Although I was hoping for more, insight into the intellectual springs of this Nation, I was not disappointed. The autobiography itself is best read before a fire, in an easy armchair, where one might imagine reflections on life lived in the 18th century largely before we became One Nation under a God in which Dr. Franklin acknowledged only a passing acquaintance.
I should also mention that, although I have not completed all the reflections by other famous, and infamous persons on the Autobiography, I particularly enjoyed reading D. H. Lawrences observations. Here is a taste taken from his opening salvo: "The Perfectibility of Man! Ah heaven, what a dreary theme!"

Ben Franklin, What a Guy!

I was fascinated and somehow proud to read this autobiography by one of our countrys founding fathers. To learn of his morality, integrity, creativity, industry and generosity is fascinating. As a book, however, it seems to read more like a journal....something that might be passed down to a son or daughter. There are sections I found tediously long, perhaps unnecessary....almost as if Franklin didnt plan on publishing it. Included margin notes suggest credibility to this. Plus, there are no chapters; it just flows. To prove my engagement, I felt disappointed that some gaps in history are not included and it ends before his work on the Declaration of Independence (1776); the Treaty of Alliance, Amity, and Commerce with France (1778); the Treaty of Peace between England, France, and the United States (1782); and the Constitution (1787). I so wanted to read his take on this part of our history. The other aspect that made it both tiresome and intriguing is the fact that we read something that was written nearly 300 years ago, so the language is more stilted and what we consider antiquated words are used. Still, it seems like a good idea to add it to the 100 Books To Read Before You Die.

What one would expect of a reference book.

This Tome of a book is exactly what I needed to learn german. Though its size necessitates one needing to lay it on a surface, its thin pages and letter markers make sorting through it a breeze. The cover appears to be fairly durable which can be said of my mini version as well, but like the mini version, there seems to be some gluing problems in the binding process that causes it to appear on the top or bottom ridges of pages. The tome looks fairly decent and rather classic looking without the dustcover which is good because although the dust cover is very decorative and modern looking, it crumples fairly easily. However, if you are like me, the constant use of the dictionary will protect it from dust enough.

Where this book excels is in its ability, through examples, to give one the proper word it use in various different contexts instead of a literal english-german translation of words. One could also learn through these examples a little in the way of grammer and idioms. The culture section was rather disappointing compared to the mini-version, however, their choice to focus more on business and personal letter or email structure is fairly important and suitable for a book that one would use as a reference book as one could not only find the right words to use in certain situations when sitting down to write a more thoughtful letter, but also see how to make one properly

Overall this book earns a 5/5 in my book.

Publishing Information NOT Accurate, CD-ROM Missing

I purchased this dictionary based on the information provided at the Amazon website, namely that it is a 3rd edition, published in Sept. 2008. As such, this meant to me that the dictionary already includes the new German language rules that was set by the 2006 committee on new German spelling rules, known as "Neue deutsche Rechtschreibung, Stand 1.8.2006"; the Aug. 2006 version of the standard. Unfortunately, this 3rd edition of the "Oxford German Dictionary" - supposedly published in Sept. 2008 - is just a RE-ISSUE of its 2005 3rd edition, with nothing added in the 2008 reprint. Consequently, the new German language rules of Aug. 2006 are not included, yet their June 2004 version are already included. I dont understand why would a prestigious publisher - such as Oxford University Press - mention that their dictionary is a 2008 edition when in fact it is just a reprint of the 2005 edition with no editing at all.

Moreover, several readers comments on amazon,Com and amazon,Co.UK mention that there was an accompanying CD with the dictionary. However, I received NO such a thing. Hopefully, amazon,Com would correct that.

Excellent German Dictionary.

This is an excellent, larger-sized German Dictionary, I have the smaller version, as well. This has many, many word definitions and a very helpful selection of various German grammar rules, especially useful for written German. This does have the "new" spellings and many "new" words. I recommend this as a good, standard reference Dictionary to keep at home. If you wish to have a good Dictionary to carry around with you, try the smaller version of the Oxford German Dictionary. There are fewer words, but more than enough for what you might need in a classroom situation.The large dictionary might be a bit intense for beginners, but sooner or later, every German student will wish to own this. Recommended.

Spice up your life

This book is similar to an interesting book I picked up lately by Stephen Williams called Super Sex Games: Be The Sex Pro Youve Always Wanted!. Williamss book was interesting in terms of the write up and the tips provided.
Hemmings with her background in behavioral psychology and as a relationship coach has written a book for the ultimate enjoyment in sex. In todays world most of us lead stressed lives that cross into all areas of our lives. We tend to ignore the enjoyments of life and how to get it. The quest for financial freedom takes the upper hand and everything else is shelved down the list until it is obliterated.
Hemmings book brings us back to the reality of life. There are gadget and tools out there to assist us in finding pleasures and joy if we seek it out. The book provides the whole plethora of games and activities one can indulge in to create some spice in our lives. Those who are creative in the bedroom and have run out of ideas will find new ones in Hemmings book. The book provides the appropriate level of detail in ensuring that you will return for more.
The advice provided starts off with the basic before moving on to more adventurous games depending on ones creative imagination. The tips and techniques described are very helpful in ensuring a fun and sexy atmosphere is sustained throughout. The best part is due to the variety of games suggested, one never runs out of ideas.

Pop-up sent to underage children

Parents Beware, who have underage children who have kindles. They are targets when they are looking for books to read for book reports for school. When your child clicks on certain titles of books & then selects a book to review, pop-ups occur & if your child clicks on that pop-up you can bet it will be porn or porn picture material. Wheither its to read &/or pictures your child suffers the shock of unknown awareness do to being an underage minor. Once a young male experiences this it becomes somewhat addicting. So parents be careful as to which books your child is seeking it may very well be damaging to them for the rest of their life. This book was a pop-up and has caused great damage to some very young boys.
