About the Author

Non-fictional books by Dr. Aquino generally fall into three categories: historical, practical, and initiatory.

Historical works include The Neutron Bomb (a study of the domestic and foreign politics surrounding the proposed NATO introduction of that weapon in 1977-8) and Extreme Prejudice (a documentary expos? of the 1986-7 “Satanic ritual abuse” scam at the Presidio of San Francisco.

Two other [2-volume] books - The Church of Satan and The Temple of Set - are not only histories but initiatory analyses as well, examining the philosophical and metaphysical concepts which define and energize those religious institutions.

As one of the U.S. Army’s extremely rare Political-Military Affairs Officers [with credentials in Strategic & Space Intelligence, Psychological Operations, Special Forces, Civil Affairs, Defense Attach?, and Foreign Area Officer], Dr. Aquino has also introduced the practical application of “MindWar” as a methodology for reducing, if not eliminating contemporary humanity’s obsession with and reliance upon murderous, destructive conventional war (PhysWar”). A Reasonable book about Immortality

Egyptian religion is known for its after-life books: The Book of the Heavenly Cow, The Book of the two Paths, The Book of Coming Forth by Day. Like all humans, they wondered about two things; 1. What happens after “I” die? 2. Is there a “me” – because one second I’m thinking about mathematics, then about getting laid, then about religion, then about lunch? How can something as my ever-changing mind be anything?

Under the influence of an Egyptian aesthetic, one of the most notorious men of our times has written a short experienced-based philosophically sound after life manual. Drawing from his decades of running the most sophisticated Left Hand Path group in the often controversial Temple of Set the West, Dr. Aquino has given us this little gem. These aren’t his “answers.” These are method of rational thinking that will lead you to your own. Philosophically Aquino is a perennialist. Plato’s ideas about the nature of immortality and the purpose of life loom large in these papers. Aquino’s thinking is in the same camp as Ken Wilbur or Alan Coombs – but a touch more clear, a touch more cold – and to my taste much more focused.
Now I know many people will be drawn to this book because of Aquino’s sinister reputation – he was a mo0ver and shaker in the Church of Satan, an PSYOP in the Green Berets, an intelligence officer at Space Command, connected with strange Lovecraftian rites, a Scottish Baron, and most damningly an Eagle Scout. Whereas I encourage folks to buy this book for those reasons – after all – money is money – they will be disappointed.
This is not a book about worshipping the devil. It is not a tome of spells and eldritch runes. It is about the purpose of life.

The meaning of life is to convince the psyche of its own immortal existence, and inspire to seek out the limits and possibilities of this existence. This book will be of interest to anyone who looks at Plato, at Integral thinking, at the philosophical underpinnings of occult practice – but on a bigger scope

This book is of interest to anyone who will die, and wants a better experience afterward based on their own efforts.

Owners manual for the soul

Nearly all works concerning the nature of the consciousness or the self are written from a perspective firmly rooted in New Age goobledygook or some interpretation of Eastern mysticism. Usually it’s the latter. They all spew the same general idea that individual consciousness is an aberration that must be remedied through the submission of the will and the ultimate dissolution of the individual into some assumed great cosmic consciousness or god.

This is not the case with Dr. Aquino’s MindStar. MindStar approaches the mysteries of consciousness from a premise that the individual consciousness is something to be examined, appreciated, and actualized.

MindStar explores the concept of individual consciousnesses and their relationships with one another and the world through history and beyond. Dr. Aquino leads the reader to consider the idea of the multifaceted soul or Mindstar - which is not the moment to moment sense of awareness created by thought and sensory perception - but a "purely-metaphysical locus of conscious existence (MindStar)" that can’t be known through the physical senses- but through developing a sensitivity and awareness to the shadow it casts on everything else.

Of special note is the chapter on Egyptian MindStar Emanations, which presents a dynamic map or model of the individual consciousness which can be activated by the conscious reader to provoke personal experiences of the soul or Mindstar. This chapter is alone is worth the price of admission.

This is one of those books which reveals more with each rereading. Dr.Aquino has pulled out all the stops here. As he writes in the preface, it was written in manner “tongued with fire.” There are relevant topics explored here in a depth that I have not seen in any other of his public published works.
You need not have read any of the author’s prior books to dive into MindStar.
Although this book is another of Dr.Aquino’s gifts to humanity, a companion to MindWar, this book is not for everyone. A life affirming approach to the mystery of consciousness that champions the individual will not be a popular read in an age that frowns upon individuality in favor of a watered down collective that sacrifices quality and creativity. For a few this book may be their personal King in Yellow, to a few others, perhaps you who are reading these words right now, this book may be precisely what you need right now.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t stress its significance enough to those in pursuit of the mysteries of consciousness and the Will to Power.
This book is a true Necronomicon.

With the eloquence, compass, and intellectual vigor we’ve come to appreciate in his previous works like MindWar, The Church of Satan, and The Temple of Set, Dr. Michael Aquino sets out to add light to the question that has plagued philosophers and remains at the center of all serious spiritual inquiry – the Soul; what is it? Where is it? Does everybody have one? If you don’t have one, how might such a thing be acquired?

Aquino works with a very powerful form of magic - the kind of magic that can give birth to new worlds and new civilizations of peace and prosperity; or, if found in the wrong hands could be used to destroy planets more efficiently than the Death Star. Fortunately it is unlikely to fall into careless or immature hands due to the discipline required to access this sort of perspective on the self and the Universe. People looking for new spells to summon demons or win lovers will be disappointed with MindStar, which is sad because they are the ones who could benefit most.

MindStar, is kind of like the spiritual follow-up to his Socio-Political work MindWar. See what’s going on here? The world outside is ‘war,’ but the world inside, that’s a ‘star,’ a point of light and the center of an entirely new universe. I have to admit after reflecting on the title and the intriguing cover art, I suddenly got the David Bowie song ‘Star Man’ (from the Ziggy Stardust era) going in my head, and thought ‘There’s another magician who likes to work with star themes a lot.’ You got Star Man running in your head now too? Good, let’s proceed…

A reoccurring theme throughout MindStar is that affirming ones self and asserting ones individuality is what develops and possibly defines the soul - or at least that aspect of the soul that might possibly continue beyond the biological envelope. MindStar approaches this with the work of understanding the distinction between the Subjective Universe and Objective Universe, and the work of defining the former as the most unique essence of independent perspective and self – the real ‘you’ of it all. This has long been a key concept for Setians, and MindStar takes the idea out to a much wider audience that can only stand to benefit from reflecting on it.

Aquino also explores the phenomenon of the Collective Subjective Universe (or CSU). A sort of ‘subjective overlay’ this is essentially Aquino’s conception of ‘Collectivism’ and Groupthink, the deleterious influences of which he traces through politics, education, and foreign policy. As he states:

“This [the CSU] was most famously caricatured in George Orwell’s novel 1984, in which failure to accept the Party’s CSU not just at the conscious but at the subconscious “reality” level was condemned as the worst of all possible sins: “thoughtcrime” – correspondingly requiring not just punishment but “curing” by destroying the offender’s ability to see “reality” other than through the Party’s CSU.” (p. 28)

Contrast this with Egyptian society where he notes:

“Harmony with the cycles of things, not defiance of them, was the Egyptian ideal – which explains whey the essential character of Egyptian society remained little changed, except to meet eternal intrusion, for thirty dynasties extending over 3,000 years.” (p. 39)

Aquino then leads the reader through an in-depth exploration of the Egyptian Priesthoods, where the Priesthood of Horus was the oldest, and Set was the god “who was ‘different’ from all of the others,” (p. 47) and eventually a most comprehensive and enlightened study of the Egyptian soul complex, of which there are eight distinctive levels. For those familiar with the Theosophical, Gurdjieffian or Tantric ideas about different souls or bodies, you’ll find most of them represented here. For instance, the ‘Khat’ almost certainly equates with the Astral, Emotional or ‘Kesdjian’ Body. The ‘Ren’ seems functionally similar to the Intellectual Body. The ‘Khabit seems to correspond with the idea of the Doppelganger. The ‘Ab’ seems to correspond with the ‘Higher Emotional’ or ‘Ethereal’ Body, and finally the ‘Ba’, which may correspond with the ‘Spiritual Body’ and also equates with the Setian idea of the Gift of Set. Also as in these other systems certain of these soul elements may live on independently as semi aware ghostly imprints, but the one we really need to worry about is the Ba, being the centrality of self-consciousness. If you are familiar with these corresponding systems you will find this part fascinating, and have to ponder the possibility of their origins amongst ancient Priesthoods of Egypt. For many this exposition will be a key take-away from the book providing a comprehensive tool for understanding the inner workings of the self.

All these aspects of the soul, the nature of self-consciousness, and the fundamental separation of the Subjective Universe from the Objective Universe mean that man’s purpose – which he sees expressed in the Greek word Telos – is to go through increasingly greater manifestations of individuation and expansions of perception – a process he expresses in the Egyptian verb Xeper. He writes,

“There was [amonst the Greeks] of necessity a purpose to this existence greater than the natural, whether divinely or individulally inspired (logos). In individual humans the Egyptians knew it as Xeper: the ever-expanding, evolutionary assertion of being. In Greece it was sought as telos – usually translated as “purpose” but referring not to mere convenience or application, but to a being’s, or object’s, or process’ metaphysical fulfillment. Thus Xeper or telos was not always readily apparent; it was a profound, hidden magic which only the enlightened consciousness could come to recognize and appreciate.” (p. 86)

Aquino also supplies some excellent historical discussion and analysis on the evolution of political philosophies about the nature and place of the individual, contrasting John Locke’s championing of ‘inalienable rights’ and property rights of individuals against Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s proto-socialist ideas Social Contract theory:

“Rousseau’s solution is that everyone first give all his rights and property to the state, and submerge his personal will in a cooperative “general will” The only true source of morality is this “general will”…If man obeys his private will in a civil state, he reduces himself to the level of a brute animal and causes society to degenerate into an oppressive, power-manipulative system. He must formulate his own will in terms of relevance to moral principle [as expressed by the “general will”]. Thus society “forces him to be free” – to exercise his will in coherence with the “general will”.” (p.107)

In following the emergence of these enlightenment era ideas about individuality’s conflict with the state’s collectivism, Aquino follows the first attempts at government regulation and the rise of the tradition of cronyism during the Industrial Revolution and the first attempts of governments to manipulate private business for national interests:

“Government aid to such industrial enterprises was also a new development, consisting of a gradual liberalizing of corporate law and the instituting of protective tariffs in order to help protect budding national industries against competition from further-developed foreign ones. By the 1890s England, Belgium, and Holland were the only countries still observing a free-trade policy.”(p. 122)

Such of course eventually blooms into the visions of Karl Marx and his Hegel-derived theory of Dialectic Materialism, who Aquino notes “denied the existence of any supernatural intelligence,” (p. 123) Thus it is safe to assume Marx wouldn’t have appreciated the idea of a uniquely individual soul or ‘Ba’ that is supra-conscious and can survive biological death.

Nevertheless the stage was set for the rise of Totalitarianism in the 20th century. Marx’s ideas fueled the rise of the rise of the Soviet Union and outright governmental suppression of ideas about individuality as well as the soul. An lesson important now more than ever since people – even those who profess to follow the Left-Hand Path - are losing sight of the fact that socialism/collectivism cannot possibly represent anything other than a threat to individuality and freedom; that socialism destroys the soul since by attempting to suppress the individual drive for success and independence, it cannot help but likewise suppress the divinity that might grow from it.

The final chapter – Beyond Incarnation – delves more deeply into the inner works of conscious development, with flotation tank experiments, techniques for reflective and non-reactive thinking, and remembering one’s already inherent immortality. He writes:

“Is attainment of the immortality of the ba or psyche a technique which the individual has to “learn”? Must one hurry to do so, lest one’s body expire before the transition is mastered? Quite the contrary, as the sage in Her-bak emphasized: this immortality is innate in all conscious beings. You possess it already, by evidence of that same consciousness which enables you to read and comprehend these words.” (p. 141)

The question for most of us will then become, “am I a conscious being?” My personal recommendation is to not answer this question in haste.

Two more special treats special treats conclude with Dr. Aquino’s infamous Sphynx and Chimera Working, and then a selected Bibliography. In case you didn’t know The Sphynx and Chimera Working is a document from 1975 exploring and examining and contrasting the ideas of Plato, Aristotle and Pythagoras, all of which provide insight into some fundamental Setian ideas. The Bibliography is an extensive list of books that were influential for the author, and pursuing these titles should keep you busy.

Though a relatively short book, MindStar will keep your mind active for a while, and if the stars are right, chances are you’ll be returning to it again and again in search of new insights.

About the Author
Dr. James T. Shipman was a long-time physics educator at Ohio University, his alma mater, and was Professor Emeritus until his passing in 2009.

Jerry Wilson received his physics degrees from Ohio University (B.S., Ph.D.) and Union College in Schenectady, New York (M.S.). In addition to co-writing PHYSICS LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS, he is one of the original authors of the first edition of AN INTRODUCTION OF PHYSICAL SCIENCE (published in 1971) and has several other physics textbooks to his credit. Wilson is currently Emeritus Professor of Physics at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Chuck Higgins received his B.S. degree in physics from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1988 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees form the University of Florida in 1996. Areas of interest and research include planetary radio astronomy and astronomy education and public outreach. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Middle Tennessee State University in Mufreesboro, Tennessee. He is the 2007-8 recipient of the MTSU Outstanding Teacher Award, and is also the recipient of the NASA Excellence in Outreach Award for his work on NASAs Radio Jove Project in 2005.

Omar Torres received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Texas A&M University in 1998 and his graduate degree in Inorganic Chemistry from UCLA in 2001. He has experience in teaching, research (inorganic, organic, and analytical) and academic administration. Professor Torres taught both inorganic and organic chemistry at UCLA, where he earned two UCLA Department of Chemistry Awards for Excellence in Teaching for the 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 school years. In addition, Professor Torres has worked at the Dow Chemical Company (Freeport, TX) in the area of Analytical Quality Control, developing and implementing new technologies for various plant operators and analytical scientists. He is currently Dean of Science at the College of the Canyons.

One of the most important books i ever read

The title does exactly what It says. It tought me how to eat correctly and it was like walking me through the process. I felt my body and my mind transforming and expanding as I took what I was learning and put it into action. #mustread

Very helpful!! A must read for all African Americans!!

If I could give this book more stars, I WOULD!!! Ive read different excerpts from this book on Facebook and I decided to purchase it for myself. I enjoyed the fact that the author wrote not only about the history that he researched, but the fact that it is based on his personal experiences as well. It is comforting to learn that we have to power to shift our paradigm without the use of medications. The author included a simple survey that helped me understand my own health decisions through my food choices and why I need a change. Ive considered a plant-based diet for some time now and this book has certainly reassured me that this is the best decision for me. I appreciated the different menu examples and recipes included. I highly recommend this book!!

AND, the "In honor and in memory of" page was empowering too!

Shifting Your Paradigm for Optimum Health and Longevity discusses the need for a paradigm shift in the lives of African Americans as it relates to their health and well-being. The book focuses particular attention on Soul Food and the Standard American Diet (SAD) and offers much data to explain how Soul Food and the SAD have contributed to alarming incidences of heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes and infectious diseases in the African American community.

I was especially impressed also with Dr. Craigs discussion of the historical and cultural roots of African eating habits (Chapter 1) and of his dispelling of the MYTHS about how much protein we really need in our diet. Im in complete agreement with his promotion of a Plant-Based Diet, the " New Soul Food" as he calls it and was most impressed the Menus in this book and the variety of Recipes he presents to help us make the transition to a Plant-Based diet.

I was also pleased to learn via his Twitter account (https://twitter.com/OPTIMUMPARADIGM) that Dr. Craig practices what he preaches in that hes been a Vegan for 40 years and serves as a living example of optimum health and well-being. If you want to get a good understanding and critical analysis of how the foods consumed by African Americans affect their overall health, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, this is the book to read. I highly recommend it!
