The story is slight, yet it will satisfy young listeners. Davis has created a nonthreatening dino world with his cartoonlike line-and-watercolor illustrations. Children will enjoy poring over details in the illustrations, but the occasional sharp-eyed parent may object to the unwrapped, home-baked treats that the dinos and kids have stuffed into their treat bags. Determined to be the scariest trick-or-treater in his neighborhood, in which humans evidently live shoulder-to-shoulder with anthropomorphic dinosaurs, T. Rex frets when pals Diplodocus, Stegosaurus, and Iguanodon preempt his most frightening costume ideas. In the end, he realizes that his mouthful of "long sharp pointy teeth!" and generally menacing physique require no disguise to be scary. Gramblings pared-down language, mouth-tickling adjectives, and repeating words and story patterns are right on target for her audience, members of which arent likely to mind that this most predictable of trick-or-treat reversals is somewhat overused. Davis neatly manages potential anxieties surrounding the dinos intentions, outfitting his dinosaurs with disarming googly eyes and overbites and portraying the shrieking, fleeing human trick-or-treaters as homely and gullible. Fabulous book for dinosaur-loving kids!

Our son loves dinosaurs, so naturally when Halloween rolled around, he wanted to be a T Rex. This book is adorable! He LOVED it and we seem to read it about every night (even now that Halloween is over). It is slightly repetitive to read (lots of repeating long dinosaur names) but the story is cute. The illustrations are fun and our son just loves talking about T Rexs "long, sharp, pointy teeth." Enjoy! Great book!!

About the Author
Thomas W. Swaddle received his B.Sc. at University College London in 1958, and his Ph.D. at the University of Leicester in 1961. He held two post-doctoral appointments in the United States before joining the academic staff at the University of Calgary in 1964. Swaddle has been a full professor at that institution since 1974. He is a Fellow of The Chemical Institute of Canada, The Royal Society of Chemistry, and The American Association for the Advancement of Science. Swaddle is a member of The American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi, and was made a Senior Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 1984. He is also Wilsmore Fellow of the University of Melbourne (1988), and Killam Resident Fellow at the University of Calgary (1995). Swaddle has authored more than 100 research articles; this is his second book.

Excellent material!

This book is not very recent(I think it was published in 97 or so) but the contents is very complete. I recommend it mainly for chemical engineers who take inorganics course, or to anyone interested in the topics. It views the economic and environmental importance of chemical related industries, and explains in detail structures, processes, bonding, etc. I have not read it all, but so far, so good. Two thumbs up!
