Drawing from Cádiz finally listening to jazz after a long journey canceled flight from JFK to Madrid and all

Drawing from Cádiz finally listening to jazz after a long journey canceled flight from JFK to Madrid and all

Aires de Cádiz concert series: Corleone (Pedro Cortejosa and David León) with Carlos Pino.  Free form jazz.
Wonderful concert -- on a stormy. Andalucían night.
We felt wed earned the jazz, and the time in beautiful Cádiz after our flight to Madrid was canceled and we spent a bumpy night in an airport  hotel at JFK.  Even when everything goes well, air travel is a pretty miserable experience.  It took us a couple of days of good music, tapas, and manzanilla to bounce back.
Watching Barcelona rout Valencia at the Nicanor (soccer).  The world was just about perfect, for the moment.

Drawings of October unfolding in Cádiz

Drawings of October unfolding in Cádiz

[by Sharon Frost]

For some years weve been spending part of the fall in Cádiz. Every year we stay a little longer.  Six weeks this time. The days go by so quickly.
We voted by absentee ballot before flying to Spain.  And then we passed some anxious weeks with the balconies of Cádiz.
Stephen reading on the Alameda de Apodaca.  The light like water.

Football (soccer) at the Bar 5, Plaza de Mina.  Watching Barcelona play Málaga.

Drawings from a November in Cádiz

Drawings from a November in Cádiz

Cádiz. Tourists near the port.  The map is always a give-away.
On the Bay of Cádiz: the ferry to Rota: a town of contrasts.  Its the location of a huge Spanish/American naval base but its also a resort and has a fishing industry as well, and a charming medieval old city.  And the short ferry trip from Cádiz is very pleasant on a nice day.
Cádiz: Waiting room, ferries to Rota.
We were happy to be in Cádiz when friend Joaquín Hernandez (Kiki) was inducted into the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Cádiz: the first time this honor has been extended to a photographer.
