Features:
Integrated HD graphics on Intel microprocessors was introduced in Westmere group of families, and it was significantly improved since then. Each new generation of processors since Westmere introduced a few variations of integrated GPU, that had different level of support of 3D and video technologies, and, consequently, different performance. At this time (February 2013) there are 7 integrated GPUs with varying features:
- Westmere Core microprocessors had HD graphics, that was implemented on a separate die, embedded next to the CPU die. The GPU die was manufactured on 45nm technology, while the CPU die was built on 32nm technology.
- Sandy Bridge processors came with one of the three GPU types: HD with basic features, HD 2000, and high-performance HD 3000. The CPU and GPU on Sandy Bridge parts shared the same die.
- Ivy Bridge architecture also had three GPU types: HD graphics with basic feature set, HD 2500, and high-performance HD 4000.
