Yesterday was the Rock in Japan festival,
Today was a handshake event.

Thank you very much to everyone who came!

The Grass Stage at Rock In Japan
Was fantastic. It was fun to be so fired up and enjoying ourselves.

It was like a miracle to be standing in that place,
And miraculously, the moment
Seemed to go by in a flash, like a vision.

Everyone was so kind to us!


Well work our hardest to get to come back next year.




And then,
I finally got to meet
Oomori Seiko-san!! ( ??? )

I was able to watch the performances
Of so many artists. They made deep impressions on me.

The title means literally "outside feathers". I think it refers to a hairstyle with the ends flipped loosely outward. Im not sure if thats what Neru is actually wearing, however.

Oomori Seiko is a fairly wild and independent rock singer/songwriter. Heres her website.

I think the Rock In Japan festival must have made a big impression on the members, as they looked out across a huge ocean of tens of thousands of pulsating fans:


Their performance appears to have been a huge success, impressing many rock fans in the crowd. And the amount of energy they must have felt flowing into them from that gigantic crowd, assembled there at 10:30 Saturday morning....

I like the use Neru makes of Keyaki Message, coordinating it with her blog. The Message pic is a close-up of the patterns on her white shows.

Keyakizaka46 Message has begun, eh.
Which members have everyone chosen??

This app is the first time Ive thought I was bad with technology.
From the start, Ive hardly sent anything at all.

From now on, I plan to send more and more.



We performed at todays Rock in Japan festival!
 
We were todays lead-off batter!!

It kept raining hard from early in the morning and I was worried, but in fact a huge number of people came to see us. I was very happy!

Truly, thank you very much to everyone who came ?
The place was really rocking. It was great!!
 

And so our national tour is at the mid-point!
Our Kobe and Fukuoka performances are done. Next is Nagoya!

After every performance I find lots of points to improve on.

Please watch over me kindly as I improve step by step.





We also had TIF recently and there are lots more events to come!!

When they were about to sing Abunakkashii Keikaku at the Rock in Japan festival, Miyu and Mona whipped up the crowd:
Miyu: "Cant you do better than that?  More!" Mona: Rock in Japan, you can do more!"

Miyu has actually been doing okay with the Keyaki Messages. But she can do more! lol. 

Nagoya is the closest big city to Miyus home-town, which is a smaller place in the same Aichi Prefecture.

Japan in California

[Guest Post by Susan Dorf in Santa Cruz, California] I have never been to Japan, but in May 2016 Japan came to me with the Japanese Cultural Fair in Santa Cruz, California.

I have always loved drawing people in motion, especially musicians and dancers, and most especially if they are in costume, so I figured this would be a prime opportunity for some juicy sketching. I grabbed my supplies and headed to the Mission Plaza Park, where it turns out the fair has been held every year for the past 30 years.

When I arrived the Awa Odori folk dancers were performing. I had brought several watercolor pencils and a water brush with me, so I sat on the grass with the rest of the audience and sketched the dancers and musicians, inspired by the beautiful traditional costumes and movements.


There was an older man in the group who had a wonderful smile and so much energy. While I was drawing him he disappeared from the stage. A few minutes later a wild haired demon appeared and began to dance and weave among the audience. Later I realized that it must have been the same man.


Then the San Francisco Taiko Dojo came onstage and I decided to try loose watercolor and ink, using a fountain pen, my tiny watercolor set and a water brush. I had to work in quick gestures to try to capture the movement, and found myself mesmerized by the rhythm and intensity of the drumming.


One of the joys of being an urban sketcher is sharing my drawings with my subjects. I was so moved by the performances and beauty of the festival that I sent my sketches to the Japanese Cultural Fair Facebook page. Several months later they asked if they could use them as promotion for this year’s fair. I was happy to give my permission as a way of saying “Arigato!”
